After many weeks of vocal battles and millions of votes, viewers finally crowned Tessanne Chin the Season 5 winner of NBC’s The Voice singing competition.
No surprise here as Chin has consistently dominated the competition and her songs have frequently landed on the iTunes Top Singles Chart, which accounts for a large portion of cumulative votes. She was so overwhelmed with emotion she barely got through the debut of her single “Tumbling Down” as confetti rained down on her. Clearly, The Voice is looking for a hit right out the gate as Ryan Tedder penned the song specifically for Chin.
Of course, it took nearly two hours before we learned the winner’s name, which means there was plenty of filler as all of the Top 20 contestants returned for special group numbers, interviews, and retrospective video clips. The live finale also included a star-studded lineup with performances by Paramore, OneRepublic, Allo Blacc, Celine Dion, and Ne-Yo. And for the first time, ever, Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera buried the hatchet publicly and teamed up for special performance of Gaga’s “Do What You Want,” which included lots of gold, tacky attire and even the pair holding hands.
